Thursday 12 May Latchi and Polis

Lovely breakfast on the sunny terrace overlooking where we'll be cycling tomorrow....looks rather a long way when you see it all stretched out before you. Fantastic blood red grapefruits and clove infused oranges. We cycle off to the little port of Latchi and wander around and then on to Polis. We visit the archaeological museum of Marion-Arsinoe, which contains artefacts from the ancient settlements that once stood here. Somehow it's more meaningful to see artefacts from the actual place where you are than ones that have been plundered from elsewhere. The museum is housed in an elegant neo-classical building right opposite the Luckoil garage. It flies the flag of the republic of Cyprus outside; the island shown copper coloured and above olive branches. We are the only ones to visit and we wonder if they get many visitors, perhaps later in the year. We buy oranges and cherries on the way home and spend the rest of the day soaking up the sun, swimming and reading.
